In a star, a soul (Walking on Starshine, chapter 1)

Once upon a time, there was the soul of a demon king, sealed within a star.

Still and softly breathing, unaware, as if comatose...

The soul and the star could be said to be one. And such, the unaware soul led to an unaware star, a star that could not see as the world changed around it.

And such, for a living soul- for the spark of a star to be something breathing, already living...

... The star's 'death' becomes a transformation.

Duskie was born with stardust infused with the magic of demons, staring upon a galaxy his star has nurtured, and with no need to breathe.

He knew none of these things, including that latter part.

"Where...am I?!" He took in a breath instinctively, not realizing there isn't any air in here. "Is anyone out there?!"

"... I don't know where we are, either." 

"... Such a perplexing situation we've found ourselves in, dear brothers mine..."

Duskie felt... comforted by the fact that he wasn't alone in this strange world, without even a clue to his origins or where he even was.

He walked- floated, more like- around wherever he was, looking around. The place was dotted with stars big and small, and a planet rather far away.

"Ah!" Duskie came to a conclusion. "We're in the sky! And that must be where we came from..." He muttered. "Let's go back down!"

"Is that... truly..."

"Earth looks a lot different than how we remember it."

Duskie began floating- swimming? towards the lush planet, but was distracted when a big rock flying past caught his eyes.

That looks tasty! Duskie thought, changing course to run to it. 

"Duskie, that's a rock!"

"... Wait... How does one know this creature's name? How does this creature even exist as one of us? Perhaps-"

"Duskie's one of us, he passes the vibe check."

"... The... Knight, What in the gods-?"

The knight and demon spoke in Duskie's mind as he bolted to catch and prey upon the tasty rocky treat.

"I'll get you yet, you tasty rock!" He yelled to the meteorite, still chasing after it. "And I'll eat you up, just like that!"

Eventually, he snagged it in his jaws, held on it tightly, and started eating.
