Kuni's First Try!

This wasn’t how he had imagined his day to go, but it was by far one of the stranger things Kuni had gotten himself into. There, sat in front of him, was a pumpkin larger than his head by only a smidge and a knife alongside it. They had stated he would be carving this pumpkin for fun and while his mind was off on other things, he figured he would give it a go. It couldn’t be THAT bad, right? Right?

“There are so many strange customs throughout the galaxy… I wonder if this one wards off some monster or something… Well, I shouldn’t keep this guy waiting any longer or he might start to rot from excitement~ Heh~” He mumbled to himself as he moved to pick up the knife carefully.

With the knife now in his paw, Kuni was off to make this pumpkin into a better-looking kind of art piece in his eyes. He had watched the example pumpkin be made and followed along the steps almost to a perfect point. The top had been cut off and he was scooping out the pumpkin guts on the inside to make room for a candle or whatever they had placed inside. To be fair, it was his first time trying this and he wasn’t sure what was going to happen with all the insides, but he heard the seeds made for a good snack.

“Alright… Now onto the part that’s going to make me seem like a loser if I don’t do it right… Do I want it to be scary? Maybe something cute? I guess I’ll just wing it at this point. It can’t get much worse than a small ball of mush after all.” Kuni moved a pen to mark out a face on the outside of the pumpkin and nodded to himself.

Now was the moment everyone had been waiting for…

Kuni was going to carve that pumpkin!

Holding the knife again after his first inspection, Kuni brought it down to the mark of the pen and slowly plunged it into his pumpkin. The first thing he wanted to do was the bigger space, so he started carving the mouth and tracing the guidelines he made. The guides showed something fierce and terrifying for a mouth, but what came out was… Let’s say… Less than picture-perfect.

The pumpkin now had a sharp and scary mouth with… One or two teeth missing. It still looked just as scary, though! Kuni gave the missing teeth a pout before he found some small pieces of wood. He heard that using these he could reattach them and that he did.

With the mouth now in working order once again, he began to work on the eyes which were a bit smaller than the mouth, but less detailed. By the end of the carving, his ferocious beast looked more like an angry cat.

“Well… At least it hit the cute aspect I was looking for…” Kuni mumbled to himself before sighing and then moving to get a candle for it for later and taking it back to where he was staying.

He placed the cute pumpkin inside on the windowsill and lit the candle. There it lived another day as the scariest and cutest pumpkin known to the town.
