Utopia (Mechanical Evolution)
Nebulae had done it. X3NON-25 had been restored to its former glory, with Vix by his side. The idiot was right, once news got out, all the tech loving Luminites flocked to the planet. Some looking for better lives, while others just cared for the advanced culture and comfort it offered.
Yet Nebulae wasn't satisfied, he'd been working on blueprints for Vixes new body in his free time. Noting how the Luminite encouraged him to work on these plans day in and out. It made him excited to see the plans.
Nebulae kept close tabs on Vix in his lab, taking blood tests and other such things as he prepared his first subject for his new being.
Vix loved it.
"I get to be a part of your dream Nebs!"
Luminite and Machine as one.
It sounded perfect on paper, and the projections seemed right. Until it came time to enact the plans. Nebulae removed everything of Vix that made him... Unique. His big green eyes replaced with a screen that displayed in... A wrong green. His limbs replaced by sleek grey augments. His body, tail and head? Replaced without a thought, even his bone structure was mechanical.
What came out of the lab it wasn't Vix. It was a soulless machine. It stared at Nebulae, cocking its head as it tried to make out what was wrong.
"Nebs" it said, in a hollow version of Vixes voice.
No.
It was barely his voice.
Nebulaes paws trembled as he stared at the sterilized table in the lab, his fur stained black. His paws stained Black. He couldn't say anything.
Was this murder? Was this evolution? Was this even natural?
Was this right?
Nebulae took a deep heaving breath as he stared at V- the synthetic Luminite next to him.
"A-are you feeling okay?" Nebulae asked, as he tried to control his trembling paws. The machine nodded.
"I am, Nebs!" There it was again. It was as beautiful as it was sickening seeing his friend now clad completely in mechanics.
He acted like him, somewhat. Which only made it worse, this was what Vix wanted, he wanted to be this way.
Just like the residents of his Utopia.
The population willingly augmented themselves and accepted the mechanical evolution into their lives without a second thought. When word got out about the research into fully mechanical bodies, they grew excited. Buzzing about the city, saying how excited they were to become full robots.
Was it right? Was it wrong?
Nebulae couldn't tell.
He couldn't be wrong, if he was wrong that would make him a murderer. He couldn't be a murderer.
This was what they wanted.
Utopia.
