Out in the infinite reaches of space, a futuristic civilization was mere moments away from its end.
Emergency alarms blared throughout the colony as residents stampeded towards evacuation shuttles. It was every man for himself.
At the center of the chaos was their dying star. The warmth it provided that once allowed the people to thrive and prosper in an unforgiving cold void was now unbearable as the gas giant spewed jets of flame outwards from its bright and blinding surface.

The star destabilized and gave way. In a fraction of a second, it exploded into a beautiful supernova of yellow and orange space debris before collapsing on its intense gravitational pull, creating a black hole.
Everything within its radius was obliterated, however, this star's death brought forth new life.
A being began to form. Its body was lanky, fox-like. What remained of the supernova was made into parts of its tail and ears, the galactic remnants complimenting the being's blonde coat of fur, with the black hole as its centerpiece on its chest.

For the first time, it opened its crisp blue eyes.
From the moment of its birth, it already knew so much. It knew of history, science, quantum mechanics, engineering, and most prominently of all, robotics.
Surprisingly, it also knew of its own identity. Its name was Theodore McCallister III, however, it preferred the name Tobey.
Deep within his heart was desire, that of which burned as the star whose destruction created him. A desire for.. what? Tobey thought to himself. That part he was still a bit unsure of.
Tobey drifted through the ever-expansive starry realm of space, wandering as he thought about what to do now. He felt strangely.. offended at the prospect of just being thrown into existence so suddenly. Even the smallest bit of direction would've been nice, but no matter. In the infinite, he was in control. He was free to go wherever he pleased, free to do anything he so wished. Free to shape his destiny.
All that remained around him was destruction, nothing of use here. He'd have to search elsewhere for his new beginning.
