It was a mild day, warm rays of sunlight reflecting off the lingering drops of morning dew. As a small herd of meadowmoo grazed in a field, on the other side, a young luminite was hard at work. Leigh clumsily, but carefully, dug at the soil with his trowel, recalling the tips and tricks Meadowlark had given to beginner farmers such as himself. Though he had been living on a farm for as long as he could remember, he had always been much more of an animal handler, with gardening being a completely new area of expertise for him.
Perhaps it was due to his inexperience, that Leigh soon found himself exhausted, and in need of a break. He retreated to the tree shades by the fence separating the farmland and the grazing field, and let out a small sigh. Farming had proved to be more challenging than he’d expected! Though he had managed to dig a few decent enough plots for the mage berry seeds he picked up as souvenirs from the campsite, he couldn’t help but feel a bit discouraged. Other farmhands had always made the process look almost effortless, but he was already having trouble following basic farming techniques. Part of him was aware that this was due to him being a beginner, but… What if he wasn’t cut out for this after all?
That was when he felt a gentle nudge on his shoulder. He turned to see a mage berry meadowmoo by his side. On his other side was regular meadowmoo, while a novapeach variant began plodding over to them closely behind, seemingly having noticed her companions’ whereabouts a bit late.
“Oh…! Are you worried about me?”
The mage berry meadowmoo - the one Leigh had affectionately named “Maggie” - answered with a gentle, but concerned moo. The regular meadowmoo, Maddie nodded, as Nora the novapeach meadowmoo joined them. Leigh let out a small chuckle. The trio of moos had always been there for him, ever since his parents brought them home as calves when he was a much younger kit. It was thanks to the close bond they had developed through the years, that he was able to become a meadowmoo rancher in the first place.
…Right, this was no time to be down. Hadn’t he decided to learn the ways of farming, so he could help out more? He was certain that homegrown ingredients would be a great help for his brother’s cafe - Mage Berry Smoothies were always in high demand, especially with travellers looking to refill their energy before they left for their next destination. Just imagining the happy smiles on the customers was enough to cheer Leigh up.
“Thanks, you three! I’m feeling much better now!” He petted the meadowmoo trio, and they nuzzled him back in return.
Then Leigh bounced to his feet, and stretched wide, filled with renewed motivation.
“Now, let’s try this one more time…!”
